Land use statistics (Arealstatistik)

The Arealstatistik of the Federal Statistical Office records land use and land cover of Switzerland on a hectare grid – 72 categories from "residential area" and "industrial and commercial area" to "orchards" or "rock". It is surveyed every 12 years from aerial imagery; the current edition reflects 2013–2018.

Parzella assigns every parcel the categories of the hectare containing its centroid. Independently of zoning this reveals whether a property is actually built up, farmed or forested – for instance to find undeveloped building land.
